Best Western Premier Waterfront Hotel

Rooftop | 24 kW capacity

After completing a recent $16 million renovation to the Best Western Premier Waterfront Hotel, the owners were seeking new ways to demonstrate their community commitment to sustainability, while reducing operating costs. Powering the hotel with the sun seemed like a logical avenue to explore.

SunPeak became involved and immediately applied for a competitive grant through Wisconsin’s Focus on Energy program, which was fully funded a month later. This effort reduced system cost by 27% to the client, in addition to a 30% tax credit provided by the federal government. Over half the project cost was offset by state and federal incentives, resulting in a strong projected financial return on investment.

SunPeak was contracted for full system implementation, which included initial feasibility study, project engineering, component procurement, permitting, installation and ongoing maintenance. All matters relating to the project were handled by SunPeak, which offered a true “white glove” experience to the customer. This turnkey single-source service allowed hotel management to implement solar with no time commitment or distraction, allowing it to focus on its business.

The project was a great success, and will now provide daily power for the next 25+ years. Every day the sun rises, a portion of the hotel’s operations will be powered for free by the sun.
