At SunPeak, Dave pursues his longtime passion for clean energy by helping companies develop solar energy systems to meet both their sustainability and cost savings goals. With a background in teaching and environmental science, Dave takes an educational and consultative approach with customers and works closely with both large and small organizations to provide effective solutions.
Dave’s interest in solar began as a teacher at Adlai Stevenson High School where he taught Advanced Placement Environmental Science for a number of years. During that time, he installed a solar photovoltaic and solar thermal system next to his classroom, effectively making it one of the first net-zero classrooms in the state of Illinois. He was voted the Illinois School Educator of the year in 2011 after helping Stevenson become the first public LEED-EB Gold School in the country.
Following his retirement from teaching, Dave worked as a sustainability coordinator, working extensively as a guest speaker and resource for the National American Solar Energy Society and the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation. In 2015, he wrote a grant that culminated in a Megawatt of solar on Libertyville District 70 making it one of the first large-scale solar installations for a school in the state of Illinois.
In addition to his work at SunPeak, Dave now shares his time and expertise with several other organizations working to advance clean energy adoption in the Midwest. He currently sits on the Libertyville Sustainability Commission, where his involvement has been instrumental in helping Libertyville, Illinois obtain citywide clean energy sources. He is also an active member of the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus, working with 250 communities developing action plans to reach green goals. Dave also started an ASAP LLC (Accelerated Solar Action Partnership) where he pairs investors with non-profit organizations to help churches, forest preserves, and other community groups fund solar energy projects. Additionally, Dave was recently selected by the US Department of Solar Energy and Technology to help evaluate funding proposals for federal grants regarding solar projects nationwide.
In his free time, Dave enjoys sailing, hiking, playing guitar, and spending time with friends and family, especially his wife and his two college-aged kids.
