Hartman earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he was also a five-year member of the UW Marching Band. He sought a career path where he could apply his technical skills to further the clean energy transition in the United States. Prior to joining SunPeak, he worked for an engineering consulting firm where he specialized in modifying and designing new transmission lines for power utilities to better connect solar and wind systems to the electrical grid.
